Managing a long-form manuscript, tracking real people across chapters, keeping research organized and retrievable, writing with AI that has read all your source material. These are the same problems whether your book is invented or true.
The Book / Chapter / Scene hierarchy works for nonfiction structure: part, chapter, section. Drag-and-drop reordering. Scene-level synopsis for outlining what each section does. Word count per section and total.
World Building stores your research material. Upload documents: source PDFs, interview transcripts, notes, timelines. Voyage AI retrieves only the relevant sources when you're writing a specific section.
Character Scribing works for real subjects. Auto-detect people from your prose, tag them to every section they appear in, track appearances chronologically. For multi-subject books, continuity checking that would otherwise require manual re-reads.
Discuss mode works especially well for nonfiction: multi-turn conversation with AI that has read your full manuscript and source notes. Edit mode rewrites prose for clarity, pace, and structure without changing your meaning. Write mode with the Narrative Journalism preset will not fabricate facts.
Two craft-grade presets built specifically for nonfiction. Narrative Nonfiction & Memoir draws from Karr, Strayed, Didion, McPhee, and Coates. Narrative Journalism activates research verification mode with source-first generation and [VERIFY] markers on unconfirmed claims.
EPUB 3, Word .docx, print-ready PDF. For manuscripts going to agents or publishers: standard .docx formatting with title page, table of contents, and custom typography controls. Submission-ready in one compile.
GrimoireScribe's Narrative Journalism preset is the only mode in the app that changes how the AI generates. When this preset is active, the AI does not produce factual claims without sourcing.
Source-first generation means the AI asks what source supports a specific claim before writing prose that contains it. It does not fill gaps in your research with plausible-sounding fabrications. If you haven't given it a source for a fact, it marks that fact [VERIFY] in the draft and flags it for your review.
When two sources conflict, the AI presents both versions and marks the conflict rather than choosing one silently. You decide which source to use and how to handle the discrepancy for the reader. The AI makes the conflict visible, not invisible.
This preset uses more tokens than fiction presets due to source verification calls. This is by design. Accurate nonfiction takes more work than fast generation.
The central craft challenge of memoir is rendering your own experience in a way that's useful to someone who isn't you. The reader wasn't there. The events mattered to you. The question is why they should matter to them.
GrimoireScribe's Narrative Nonfiction preset is built from the writers who solved that problem: Joan Didion's fragmented syntax as emotional state, Cheryl Strayed's unsentimental clarity about hard experience, Mary Karr's unflinching precision, John McPhee's structural patience with material that resists easy shape.
The memoir craft challenge isn't accuracy. It's selection: what to include, what to withhold, and in what order. The preset helps you make those choices deliberately rather than by default.
